Concert: Mark Teachey--Music of Peter, Paul & Mary

Thursday, 6/21/2018
6:30PM-7:45PM
Concerts @ CAM series: The Music of Peter, Paul and Mary Featuring Mark Teachey

Mark Teachey (www.markteacheymusic.com) grew up listening to Peter, Paul & Mary’s music, an American folk group who became one of the most popular singing groups of the 1960's and 1970's. Their three-part harmonies were unmistakable, and many of their hit songs have become timeless classic. Teachey's clear, clean finger picking acoustic guitar style is reminiscent of their sound, and perfectly complements his pure, melodic tenor vocals. He makes the great Peter, Paul & Mary songs come alive all over again. The program will include images and fascinating facts about some of the songs he performs including: "Leaving on a Jet Plane", “Blowin In The Wind", “Puff The Magic Dragon", and more. Bring family and friends to enjoy an evening with Mark Teachey as he pays tribute to artists who may have been part of the soundtrack of your life. Purchase seats on CAM’s website: www.cameronartmuseum.org, by phone and at the door. CAM Members and Students with valid college ID: $12.00, Non-Members: $17.00. Weyerhaeuser Reception Hall.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Mark Teachey is a singer, guitarist and songwriter who has been playing guitar since the age of nine and has been heavily influenced by the music of Jim Croce, James Taylor, John Denver and other artists of the 1960’s and 70’s. Mark is an acoustic fingerpicker style guitarist and particularly enjoys ballads. He is an Associate Pastor for Senior Adults at Winter Park Baptist Church in Wilmington.

Songbooks provided, beginners welcome!

Wilmington Sacred Harp Singers (http://bit.ly/WilmNCSacredHarp) presents a traditional Sacred Harp Singing and invite you to join in the music and raise your voice in song! This dynamic form of a cappella social singing dates back to Colonial America, using a modern reprint of the 1844 songbook "The Sacred Harp". Sacred Harp and related shape-note styles are the oldest continuous singing traditions in the United States. Surviving as a living tradition in parts of the South, notably Georgia and Alabama, Sacred Harp music has been discovered by new generations of singers who have spread the heritage across North America and to Australia and Europe.

The music is loud, vigorous and intense. It is meant to be sung, not just observed. No previous experience is necessary. Learn more about Sacred Harp singing at fasola.org. Free and open to the public, Weyerhaeuser Reception Hall.
