Pine Needle Country Ornaments

Beginning & All Levels

Instructor: Melanie Walter

Students create pine needle and wooden disc ornaments. Wooden discs with various holiday designs are provided, and students learn how to add coils of prepared pine needles to finish the ornaments.

Clay Ornaments & Printed Cards (Youth)

Cut the kids loose in the studio – decorating and adorning seasonal ornaments and block printing greeting cards. Teaching artists Renato and Topher keep art in the crafts.

Explore basic wire bending and connecting techniques to create one of a kind earrings, pendants and a simple holiday tree ornament. Shape copper and brass wire into beautiful pieces of wearable art. One piece to keep for yourself, one to give to a loved one, and one for the tree!

Holiday Notecards in Watercolor

You do not need to be an experienced watercolor artist to create a unique greeting card this season! In just 3 hours, you can sketch and paint a holiday-themed painting. Students pick up original art and notecard packet at the CAM front desk within 2 days. Arrangements can be made to mail art work.

Pop Art Food Paintings (Middle School)

Create Wayne Thiebuad inspired paintings - deliciously fun and colorful! (Find his beautiful cake paintings online.) Students use their favorite foods, from their own photo, to create a beautiful, fun, and whimsical painting that makes a great gift easily presented in standard sized frames.

Alla Prima method, “wet on wet” oil on canvas, is a fast method of using very little mediums, with one layer on top of another. Bring an image of your favorite vacation spot or location in a photo. Students work on small canvases that are easy to frame for a perfect gift.

Basic Blown Glass: Beads & Pendants

Learn the basic skills to create glass beads and pendants with a simple propane torch. This is an entry-level course, with no skill requirements other than the wish to learn.

Cold Wax on Paper

Working in oil and cold wax on paper, artists experiment with many cold wax techniques to create small finished paintings that are easily framed for holiday gifts or used to create fun note cards or bookmarks.

Spend a day in the clay studio focusing on fun, creativity and togetherness! You are invited to come alone or make it a family venture. Step by step, learn to assemble your own, large vessel, unique cookie jar. Could be a face, could be an elephant. Could be the most fun you’ve had in a while!

Have you taken the silk painting workshop and wanted to make another gift or two? Float into an Open Studio day to play and paint in time for the holidays. Newcomers can learn basic watercolor techniques for a colorful scarf. Bring your own fabrics and/or purchase from limited selection. Beginners or repeat students welcome!

The Museum School at the Cameron Art Museum provides adult and youth art education including a range of beginning and master classes which can include CEU credit through New Hanover County Schools.

Distinctions of The Museum School programming include instructor-guided access to the museum?s exhibitions and select objects in the museum?s permanent collection not on view, and access to the museum?s non-circulating art library numbering over 2000 publications and monographs.

Additionally, the School creates employment opportunities for area artists and instructors.
