Musicals: Ray Kennedy & Opera House Theatre Company

An evening that’s sure to have you humming along and your feet tapping when Ray Kennedy, long time director and choreographer for Opera House Theatre Company, combines his love for the Great American Songbook with a musical preview of Sunset Boulevard and Violet, his two upcoming summer productions. The music of George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Rodgers & Hart begins a program which has just added Beth Swindell and Jordan Davis, to join Ray presenting great standards. Wilmington theater favorites Cassandra Vallery (Norma Desmond) and Kendra Goehring-Garrett (Violet Karr), the leads in the upcoming shows will perform with Ray, along with “Sunset Boulevard” co-stars: Coleman Cox, Eric Johann and George Domby (just added). The standout evening is followed by conversation and Q&A. 6:30 pm: cash bar opens.

Illustrated Lecture: Shannon Silva, filmmaker

Filmmaker Shannon Silva gives an overview of her body of work, including the short narrative film Baby Oil, currently on view in CAM’s North Carolina Arts Council Artist Fellowship 2017 Award Exhibition. Her feature documentary, It's A Girl Thing: Tween Queens and The Commodification of Girlhood, was awarded Best Social Documentary at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival. Shannon is Associate Chair and Associate Professor, UNC Wilmington Film Studies Department and founder of UNCW's Visions Film Festival.

Make Trouble


Theatre: Make Trouble, 'Romeo and Juliet'

Make Trouble in association with Alchemical Theatre of Wilmington present- Make trouble's Romeo and Juliet - a short Shakespeare production.

For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Juliet and her Romeo.
(Prince, Act 5 Scene 3)


This 90-minute production will capture Shakespeare's timeless classic in an up close and personal production. Actors play multiple characters to tell this beautiful story full of laughter and the tragedy of hate. Suitable for teens and older.

Make Trouble launched in summer 2016 in Staunton, VA - a summer actor training intensive and repertory company in Shakespeare, Ensemble and Devising for university students and recent graduates. Their mission is to nurture and train emerging artists as a fiercely generous and courageous ensemble of theater-makers from around the world, for this summer and for enduring collaborations together.

A group of friends take an oath to dedicate themselves to a life of study and avoid women for three years. The Princess of France and her ladies-in-waiting arrive, and things become hilariously complicated. Lovers, clowns and confused servants make this Shakespearean situational comedy a delight. Suitable for teens and older.

Art Inspires - Music: Susan Savia

Susan Savia will perform musical selections in the galleries inspired by the work in CAM’s current exhibitions: North Carolina Arts Council Artist Fellowship 2017 Award Exhibition and Works of Honor: NCAC Artist Fellowship recipients from the Collection. Savia is a chanteuse and singer/songwriter, a proficient guitarist and harmonica player. For this program she will perform a variety of original and eclectic songs using her clear, four octave voice to interpret and guide us on a journey through each song selection inspired by the art on view.
