Gallery Talk with Barbara Snyder

Join Barbara Snyder in the Structure in Bloom exhibition as we continue our exploration of recent photography acquisitions. Barbara is a self-educated photographer. Her work is deeply personal and focused on the full cycle of creation to destruction. Reflecting on her Catholic upbringing her work sometimes draws on the metaphysical in life. She has shown in numerous national exhibitions and was a recipient of the 2014 and 2017 North Carolina Regional Artists Grant. Snyder lives and works in Wilmington, North Carolina and serves on the board of the Cape Fear Camera Club.

Come and experiment painting watercolor on Yupo paper. It's an archival paper that is a non porous plastic and it is very different than watercolor paper. Experience the adventure of developing art on slippery paper where the paint is vibrant and exciting, pushing it to make something of substance and creativity. We can work with any type or shades of paint colors that you have.

Art Explorers

Adults and children 2 and under: free
Special guest educator from Halyburton Park, Miss Jess, will join Miss Bobbi and Miss Georgia as we talk about the season of summer as it is changing to fall. We will read ‘Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn’ by Kenard Pak, and learn about weather patterns and changing colors. We will look for examples of different seasons in art work inside the galleries, and create art using fallen leaves. Art Explorers is geared towards infants, toddler and preschoolers, but big brothers and sisters are welcome to join and create art with us.


Figure Model Training Session

Join North Carolina artist Elizabeth Bradford, whose work is featured in CAM's exhibition Elizabeth Bradford: A House of One Room, for an engaging conversation about The Overstory by Richard Powers. Registration includes a glass of wine or sparkling water. Studio dinner and half-priced bottles of wine available from the CAM Cafe. Books available for purchase in advance at the CAM Shop. NC Traditional Pottery

Drawing Inspired by Nature

A drawing course focusing on the details of nature. This course will use the natural areas around the museum as inspiration to study the details of flora and improve drawing ability and techniques through close observation. Class time will be spent drawing outside, focusing on the unique visual characteristics of individual plants. After returning to the studio, students will enhance and refine their drawings using pencil, pen and/or adding color. Experimentation is encouraged. Some previous drawing experience suggested.
